Fashion Evening:
On the 30th of November, Serena Style Store will present a fashion evening at its Sandymount  Boutique.  All proceeds will go to the Mua Hospital Appeal. The evening will include bubbly and canaps by Butlers Pantry and wonderful prizes will be raffled. The evening will commence at 7pm, admission is 20 and tickets are available from Serena Store, Sandymount or by phoning Maura at 087 6862480.

Bring and Buy Sale at the Lansdowne Hotel:
A Bring & Buy Sale will be held in the Lansdowne Hotel on behalf of the Mua Hospital Appeal on 4th and 5th December.  Is your place full of clothes, toys and equipment that your child has grown out of?  Donate them to our sale reclaim your space and feel good about helping a great cause!  Keep in touch with this website for exact arrangements. Give and Buy Launch, Sept 28th, 2010
Give and Buy, an exciting new initiative to raise money for Charity was launched in the Guinness Storehouse on September 28th. Give and Buy facilitates all in getting rid of unwanted gifts. merchandise etc. by placing them for sale on the Give and Buy website with all proceeds going to the sellers nominated charity.   Mua Hospital Appeal is a participating charity in Give and Buy.  Give and Buy Logo+link here.

Elaine does the half SEPTEMBER 18th
Elaine Keating, a great friend of Mua Hospital Appeal, ran the Half Marathon!!! for the project on Sept 18th.  Elaine who ran the race in an amazing time raised in excess of 500 for the Appeal.

SEPTEMBER Bag-Packing in Tesco, Bloomfield, Dun Laoghaire 17th, 18th, 19th
Young people were on hand to help bag-pack groceries on the 17,18 and 19th September, in Tesco, Bloomfields Shopping Centre Dun Laoghaire.  Our heartfelt thanks to the young ladies of Loreto Senior School, Dalkey and Rathdown School, Dun Laoghaire as well as their Transition Year Co-ordinators. Thanks also to all our more mature helpers.  The three days raised in excess of 2500.

Defibrillators and Monitors from Tallaght Hospital/GECS
Good news from Tallaght Hospital!  Through the good offices of Dr. Jean OSullivan and Alan Glass of Tallaght Hospital and GECS, two defibrillators and nine monitors have been donated to the Mua Hospital Appeal.

OConnell Mahon Architects
OConnell Mahon Architects are providing Mua Hospital Appeal with professional architectural services on a pro-bono basis. OConnell Mahon is a pre-eminent practice in Healthcare Architecture and the project is extremely fortunate to have secured such a generous benefactor.   Brian OConnell and Kate OHea of OConnell Mahon will visit Mua in late September to survey the site and optimise the design and layout of the theatre. Patrick Tyrrell, who will be responsible for the theatre installation and Dr. Valerie Donnelly will accompany Brian and Kate.

 

Flora Womens Mini-Marathon 7th June 2010
A small group of runners and walkers participated in the Flora Womens Mini-Marathon on behalf of the Mua Hospital Appeal.  Decked out in our Mua t-shirts and not being put off by the rain, Pamela, Mary, Bridget, Maebh, Alex, Aisling and Elaine Maura, Mary L and Anne completed the course.  Tony took the photographs (see in the Media Gallery).  Afterwards, the Mua Hospital Appeal team repaired to Toners on Baggot Street for a restorative sup and nibblies, very kindly provided by Mick Quinn, one of the pubs owners.  Lets not forget the cute goody-bags provided by Easons thanks to Alan and Raymonde.  On-line and off-line sponsorship for this event came over 5,000 - an excellent addition to the coffers a big thanks to all our family and friends who contributed. 

Table Quiz in Mulligans of Sandymount 20th May 2010
A very enjoyable evening was had by all sixty four contestants. Ten very challenging rounds of questions (some said too challenging)! , covering everything from Current Affairs to Dingbats (yes, some of us had never heard of them before!), saw the Norfolk and Way team romp home, A  tie-breaker for second place was won by African Connection .  The accompanying raffle was very generously supported, with the fantastic 500 voucher for Ballynahinch Castle being won by the Wednesday Gang.  Overall, the event raised 1,400, and the committee is grateful to all the contestants and especially to Mulligans and manager Gerry Grant.  The local businesses showed huge support in their donation of prizes.

Sisk Healthcare Operating Table 20 May 2010
Eschmann Equipment is a UK based part of the Sisk Group and is a long established and prestigious manufacturer of operating theatre equipment. Eschmann, through the good offices of its managing director, Phil Kennedy and Corkman Jack OMahony on behalf of Eschmann Sisk Healthcare will gift the project an operating table.  This represents a significant item on the shopping list, it is the single biggest cost item in the project and is a great boost for our fund-raising efforts.  Additionally, it will be a hugely significant factor in providing up-to date surgical facilities to the people of Dedza

Donation from ACCBanks Employees Third World Fund 10 May 2010
ACCBanks Third World Fund is made up of salary deductions from staff, matched by the bank and the committee is delighted that they have decided to donate 15,000 to the Mua Hospital Appeal.  Many thanks to Michael Doyle and the other managers of the Fund, and also to all the staff members who contributed.


The Mua Hospital Appeal Launch 4th March 2010
The Mua Hospital Appeal (a project of the Women of Malawi charity) was formally launched on 4th March 2010, at a function in the Lansdowne Hotel, Pembroke Road, Dublin 4. 
Dr. Valerie Donnelly, the charitys founder and a frequent visitor to Mua Hospital, spoke movingly about the inadequacies of the existing operating theatre and its equipment, and highlighted how the new Operating Theatre will mean a significant improvement in the care offered to patients.
Tony Quinlan, chairman of the fundraising committee, thanked everyone for attending and explained the vision for the Mua Hospital Appeal: to provide a modern, fully-fitted operating theatre, built in two brand new shipping containers.  He presented the Appeals brochure, and listed the various methods by which our well-wishers can help by donating via MyCharity.ie, by running events on behalf of the Appeal, and by helping to get corporate sponsors on board.
Tony thanked the donors of prizes for a raffle, and also the Lansdowne Hotels owners, Mick and Helen Quinn, who provided the venue and the refreshments.  The raffle and other donations amounted to over 1200, for which the committee sincerely thanks all who contributed.

Mount Carmel to provide Anaesthetic Machine and Hospital Beds February 2010
Dr Valerie Donnelly conveyed the news that Mount Carmel will donate an Anaesthetic Machines surplus to requirements to the Mua Hospital Appeal.  This is a large item on the shopping list.  The committee would like to thank Margaret Begley of Mount Carmel, who is overseeing this donation.
Valerie has also received a number of hospital beds.

Grant from Irish Aid (Malawi) December 2009
A generous donation from Irish Aid (Malawi) kick starts the Mua Hospital Appeal.  Dr Valerie Donnelly receives 12,000 for the purchase of surgical instruments.

Pharmacy Clear-Out helps the Mua Hospital Appeal December 2009
The Mua Hospital Appeal has been given the contents of a pharmacy, by the generosity of Mick and Helen Quinn.  Dr Valerie Donnelly has selected the suitable items (i.e. which are not/will not go out of date), and they have already been sent to Malawi.
