The Mua Hospital Appeal

The Appeal was founded as the result of a meeting of Dr. Valerie Donnelly, Founder of the Women of Malawi Charity and Paul Tyrrell CEO of CRS,  a company specialising in mobile and portable cold storage.  Valerie, the founder of the charity, Women of Malawi had been working in Malawi, largely in the area of woman and child health and identified Mua Hospital in the Dedza District as being in urgent need of a new operating theatre. Paul agreed to become a major sponsor of the project and the Mua Hospital Appeal was founded as a project of Women of Malawi. A committee, which immediately commenced active fundraising was formed and the Appeal was formally launched in March 2010. Fundraising activities have included table quizzes, sponsored runs, bag packing events, in addition the appeal has been successful in attracting major support from organisations willing to provide specific items of theatre equipment and other services. Funds raised to date, in cash or in kind, exceed 200,000. The estimated cost of the theatre is over 300,000. Apart from a host of individuals far too numerous to mention individually, the Appeal has received major support from:
